Belgrade is an exceptional four season’s town that covers about sixty square miles, with a large part of this area composed of lakes, streams and wetlands. With its abundance of water, Belgrade offers wonderful fishing, swimming, and boating opportunities in the summer, as well as ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. The area is also surrounded with beautiful hiking trails for fall foliage and is considered an excellent location for spring bird watching.
Belgrade has ample amounts of fishing opportunities with four major lakes Long Pond, Great Pond, Messalonskee Lake, and East Pond. There are many smaller ponds, and streams located throughout Belgrade as well. Fish species differ from place to place, but you will often find salmon, lake trout, brook trout, large, and small mouth bass, white perch, and of course sun fish. You will also find several invasive species of fish that were illegally introduced including black crappie and record size northern pike. You will find many public boat ramps available for boats of all sizes, several which have been marked on the map below for your convenience. Hunting in belgrade can be limited with the majority of land being privatly owned, but most property owners do not mind hunting on there land, but please ask for permission before going out. You can find land owner contact information at the town office. The closest public hunting land is located in the Kennebec Highlands in Rome, and Mount Vernon.
